Chicago to New Delhi

Etihad flight number 150 from Chicago to Abu Dhabi is a two class service Boeing 777. That basically means it's a huge airplane with Business Class and Economy seating. I'm in seat 9A which is the fifth seat back from the front of the plane.

Boarding started an hour before departure and with Business Class passengers first. I was greeted at the door by a handsome young man who took my boarding pass, greeted me by name and escorted me to my seat. I have to say, it's a really nice seat. A bit narrow compared to other business class seats I have flown, but nice nonetheless. I have three windows to look out of, a seat that lays into a bed and a huge television. At my seat was a nice comforter and a large pillow (not those tiny things you usually see). After taking a few photos and stowing my backpack I got comfy in my seat. As I'm typing this I'm using the built in seat massager, it's doing a pretty good job.

After getting settled in one of the beautiful female flight attendants came by and offered me a choice of orange juice, champagne or carrot juice. The carrot juice was really good. Another flight attendant (FA from now on) came by and offered me a choice of newspapers, and then another offered a choice of magazines. And yet another came by with a tray offering amenity kits including socks, eye shades, lip balm, moisturizer, toothbrush and tooth paste and a few other things. The menu was handed out after the hot towel service, the menu looks good. Now I have to decide if I want to write the menu or just photograph it so you can see what my choices were. Finally one of the FAs came by and asked what we wanted to drink after departure. I ordered a glass of water (need to stay hydrated) and a latte.

We took off shortly after 8:30 pm. Once we reached a cruising altitude of 37,000 feet I reclined my seat, put my feet up and began typing this. I'll add to it as time goes on. Right now they are putting together drink orders and it should be out soon...

My latte never made it, we've had a lot of turbulence and something about making hot drinks. I had a glass of water and then a rum and orange juice.

An appetizer was served, it wasn't on the menu and I'm not sure what it was, but it was good. In a white bowl with a couple olives and a skewer with vegetables and a piece of chicken.

Next up was my king prawns with hearts of palm. Those red things are NOT red bell peppers! They were hot, but good.

I asked what the Arabic Mezze was, my FA described it and then asked if I wanted to try it, so I did. It included a very tasty stuffed grape leaf, a grilled chicken leg and one other item which I have no idea was. There were a couple of dips to go with it, the chickpea and garlic dip was awesome.

Next up was my pan seared filet of cod with saffron rice and okra stew. The fish was good, the rice wasn't bad, the okra stew was outstanding!

My tray table is cleared now. I decided to wait a while for dessert as I'm stuffed right now. I'm watching The Big Bang Theory on tv and looking out of the window at the sunrise as we fly over the polar cap to the other side of the world.

Ten hours to go.....

Morning fruit plate

My morning coffee

I just woke up a little bit ago. After a half hour of television I laid my seat down into a flat bed and went to sleep. For six hours I slept hard. Shortly after I awoke the FA came over and asked how I slept, said we had four hours left and asked if I would like an espresso drink and breakfast. I ordered a latte and some fresh fruit. Unfortunately the only espresso drinks left are decaffeinated. I guess everyone else woke up before I did. So I just ordered some regular coffee, and later maybe I'll order some breakfast. Or better yet maybe I'll take another nap.

Four hours to go.....

On the ground now in Abu Dhabi. It was a comfortable flight overall. After getting off the plane I had to clear security again to get back into the terminal. That took all of five minutes and in less than another five I was in Etihad's Business Class Lounge. What a lounge!! I wish I was allowed to take photos but I'm not. There is a spa for massages and more (not that more). I took a nice hot shower to refreshen myself, then into the main lounge. The food buffet here is the best I've seen from any lounge, actually it's the best I've seen from any restaurant! I'm eating fresh sushi right now, then I'll go check out the butter chicken and basmati rice. There is way too much up there, what I may actually do is go sample all the Arabic food, I'll have plenty of time for Indian food later on.

My flight to New Delhi leaves in three and a half hours.

I do believe I'm getting my five dollars worth on this trip.
